[OOC] Hazel Background Information
Name: Hazelnut Louise Mire
DOB: 01/15
Age: 15
Appearance: Hazel isn’t very tall, only 5’2”, with golden yellow eyes and long grey hair is a shade similar to gunmetal. She has dark brown skin, and is slender in build, although she is very toned and muscled for her size. It’s obvious she worked out (trained) a great deal. She wears a lot of military gear, uniforms, and boots at all times.

Basic Profile:
A cautious, shy, paranoid girl who has Visions of the Coming of The Holy Edith, which she has no idea what that even means. Her parents thought this was a doomsday prophecy about the coming rebirth of the world and created a cult to prepare for it (and help it along). Was trained to use her Sight By Touch to see into people's hearts and their deepest, darkest insecurities, doubts and desires and then recruit them into the cult. When she realized her visions did not mean that the Holy Edith was a good thing and tried to leave the cult, her parents stopped her and tried to force the Arrival to happen with a powerful ritual. Bad idea, since all they did was summon a powerful demon who killed all the adults and then branded the children with their Mark so they could find and use them later. Tried to brand Hazel too, but she has a fiery anti-demonic aura that protects her and it turns out she's already spoken for by another more powerful being. All the kids flee and Hazel does too, but on the run she keeps getting caught up in Supernatural Shenanigans and avoiding the Cabal of high-ranked demons that want her dead. They can't touch her themselves so they keep trying to stage other situations that would lead to her death through other supernatural means. What she doesn't know is that the Holy Edith is a Fallen Angel that is trying to break out of the purgatory she's trapped in and when she does she will burn the world in her own image. Demons are terrified of Edith as she despises them for being the creation of her brother Fallen Angel, Lucifer Morningstar. Both of Hazel’s parents are descendants of Edith’s daughter that she had with a human (and is indeed part of the reason she was cast out of heaven).
Setting Basics: Location is Southwest USA, year is 2020.
Timeline:
Personality:
Hazel was always a curious, thoughtful child who grew up being told that her own doubts and desires were secondary to the Destiny that she had been Chosen for. The fact she questioned things was not a sign of critical thinking, but a sign that she lacked Faith in Edith (and her Speaker Tami) and in her parents who believed in Edith. But after accepting the truth that her visions are not a beacon of hope about the coming salvation of the world, she’s come to distrust authority figures a great deal. How can she trust they know or understand when they had someone else telling her what her dreams meant and someone telling her how wrong she was with her own feelings about them? How can she believe they are doing things for her own good when so many of the people she’s touched are filled with the same kind of doubts and desires that led her own family astray? So now she believes in herself and no one else. She won’t give in to anyone else and she will follow her own instincts to do what she believes is right.
She was taught that as the Chosen One, she had to be strong, to behave like a leader. So she portrays herself as confident and composed as a default, but what Hazel hides is how utterly terrified she is on a constant basis. She’s always afraid. The visions she sees are often dark and traumatic and she’s constantly on edge about what could be coming to get her. Her parents raised her to believe that the world was a damned place and that only Edith could save it. They had to be prepared for anyone coming at any time to stop them from fulfilling Edith’s will and saving the world. Recently she’s come to accept that her worldview was intentionally skewed and that people and even other supernatural beings may not be as horrible as she once thought they were, because her parents were wrong about so many other things, too. It’s just hard for her to remind herself of this at first. Her kneejerk reaction is one of fear, caution, and assessing the people around her in what ways would be best to manipulate them in her favor. And she is terrified of demons. Yes, she understands now that her Fire protects her from them, but they still frighten her a great deal because she doesn’t know who they may hurt and use to get to her. If a demon is involved, no one around her can be trusted because free will is an illusion.
Beneath her suspicion, paranoia and harsh view of the world is someone who wants to do good and to protect people. It’s what she was raised to believe in. Her parents were misguided and corrupted (especially by Miss Tami’s lies and half-truths), but in the end their goal was to save the world that humans and others had ruined. They wanted to bring peace and goodness to the world and make it a better place. She still believes in this, but knows that her parents were wrong in how to accomplish that. Her visions have been telling her about the coming of Edith and she does believe that means she has something to do with it. But now that she knows Edith is a Harbinger of Nothing Good, she doesn’t see it as her path to help her, but to stop her. She just doesn’t exactly know how to go about that. So she’s been following her other visions, letting them guide her to places and people and artifacts that she thinks will in some way help her stop Edith from returning to her world.
Abilities:
Sight By Touch - Hazel is capable of touching a person and having a psychic connection with them. She can see and feel their deepest doubts and desires. Such as how she used these desires to make people believe they were chosen to be part of Edith’s army. She uses this ability as a crutch almost, having trouble relating to people if she can’t touch them even briefly to see into them and know how to adapt herself to fit what will put them at ease.
Seer - Hazel has visions of various events, most of them involving the Coming of Edith. She gets visions of other events, such as a vision she had of a girl falling through space and ended up saving a girl from being dragged into a Demonic Door, an opening into a hell dimension. A thrall of a demon was sacrificing young girls to the demon in order to have her own soul freed. The visions can sometimes be very direct like premonitions of the future or glimpses of the past, but most of the time they’re vague, or obscured by themes and imagery.
Anti-Demon Aura - When Hazel is in great fear or distress of physical harm, and the cause of that is demonic, a fiery aura may engulf her. She calls it her “Fire” and she has no control over it. It is purely subconscious defense ability that she has and demons can only be physically harmed by it if they are touching her directly or her fear is so great that the aura spreads around her. The largest area of effect that has been activated so far is 25 feet. This fire burns demons and anything demonic and won’t stop burning them until they are consumed. This protective aura also prevents demonic influence over her, such as demonic mind-control/possession. If the power a demon has does not come from demonic influence/energy then it cannot be stopped by the aura (such as a demon who gained some of their powers through other means, like a special tool/weapon).
Military and Survivalist Training - Hazel has ten years of military training. She can shoot a variety of firearms, including sniper rifles, uses knives, knows how to build forts, survive in the wilderness, hand-to-hand combat, and how to hunt, kill, gut, and cook various animals. She has a very sharp eye.
Occult Knowledge - Hazel has had training in some of the more mystical and supernatural aspects of the world. She can recognize sigils and runes and knows how to read Latin and Old English. She also has minor familiarity with Hebrew and Norse.

Setting Basics: Location is Southwest USA, year is 2020.
- Supernatural beings exist: Demons, Werewolves, Faes, Sprites, Ghosts, Ghouls, etc.
- Supernatural beings either come from another dimension that is connected to our world, or were born of wear and tear between them. Ghosts and Ghouls are corrupted human souls that did not cross over as they were supposed to and began to decay.
- Ghosts are trapped in the location they died or attached to objects. They cannot retain new memories longer than one day cycle and only maintain those they had when they died.
- Ghouls are humans who killed in a horrific way but were so angry or scared that they refused to die and crawled out of their own graves, thus turning into an Undead being (not unlike a zombie, but a lot more sentient even though they still eat people). The fresher the flesh they eat the more human and life-like they look and can even disguise themselves as humans in some ways.
- Demons come from a dimension full of horrors, having been banished there after their creation by Lucifer Morningstar by other Fall Angels. They are humans who were corrupted by Lucifer and sold their souls to do his bidding. Many of the other Fallen Angels despise them as not only are they humans (the beings their Father loved most), but humans who abandoned Father for their own gain. Demons feed on the suffering of others and like their creator Lucifer can make contracts with humans in to gain their soul. Souls can consumed to give the demon even more power if they want, but otherwise the soul of a Damned becomes a slave to the Demon.
- Shifters have a variety of species among them and a connection to the Old Ways, or a spirituality and magic that is existed almost as long as humanity itself. A connection to nature and the more primal side of humanity. Werewolves/Lycans have a bond to the lunar cycle that is stronger than all other Shifters.
- Faeries, Sprites, and Pixies are all Fae and come from the same world.
- Specs are humans with special abilities that cannot always be explained by influence from other supernatural beings. Specs is short for “Special.”
- Witches are humans who can use magic. Witches can be male or female. Usually a witch apprentices under an older and more experienced Witch, but some try to learn how to perform magic on their own.
- Psychics are humans who have a strong connection to the spiritual energies of the world and can pierce through the barriers of the different dimensions using those energies. They can see visions, read minds, speak to the dead, and many other abilities that have to do with the spiritual.
- Hunters are humans who deal with Supernatural investigations and also deal with fighting those creatures and beings that try to harm humans.
- Regions of the world have connections to certain other planes/dimensions that ebb and flow as the people themselves maintain the bonds through shared belief. Other countries have supernatural beings and magical connections all their own because of this, but there can be overlap.
Timeline:
- Hazelnut was born on January 15th to Mark and Ruth Mire. Two retired veterans turned quasi-anti-establishment, pro-environmental activists. They weren’t necessarily dangerous but they were outspoken and did believe the government had too much power and surveillance over any and everything because of technology. They lived a simplistic life avoiding most forms of technology.
- When Hazel was four she began having disturbing dreams about someone named Edith that would wake her in the middle of the night and she would tell her parents about them. They thought she was just a child have strange dreams.
- Within a year she kept talking about the dreams and was having a harder and harder time sleeping as the dreams got worse, but instead of taking her to a doctor or psychiatrist, they took her to a psychic, Miss Tami. Hazel was holding her hand when this happened and she could feel Miss Tami’s doubts because she was a fraud psychic and Hazel told her that she wouldn’t believe her because she couldn’t see. To cover up this declaration Miss Tami pulled away from her and collapsed, rolled her eyes back and then proclaimed that she had gone blind, temporarily because of Hazel’s words. She told them that the visions were a herald, a calling to the coming of something amazing that would change the world.
- Mark and Ruth took this all to heart and immediately began to see the visions as a good thing, clues about the Coming of the Holy Edith, a glorious messenger of God who would change the world and fix everything wrong with it. And since some of the visions Hazel saw involving blood and death, there must be a war to be fought by Edith and those chosen by her. They pooled majority of the money they had been saving and investing (quite a bit since Ruth had been left five million dollars when her father passed away as all of his businesses and assets were liquidated), and bought a huge plot of land they turned into a fortified militaristic compound in Colorado.
- Miss Tami would travel to the compound and give them guidance, help in interpreting Hazel’s visions. She was a fake psychic, but she was a real witch and could cast some spells and perform rituals, including on that masked the compound, which was completely off the grid technologically, so obscure people from finding it unless they were given a “key” (a special coin with a sigil on it that would allow them access).
- For the next ten years, Mark and Ruth would seek out other “soldiers” people they saw as believers and chosen to be part of the Edith’s army. They would use Hazel’s power called Sight by Touch to see into people’s deepest doubts and desires to manipulate them. It was not just adults they sought either, but believers with children they could train into soldiers who would stand by Hazel, the Chosen One, in their mind, the lead Edith’s army for the rebirth of the world. The training was harsh, painful, and in some ways may as well have been torture.
- Every new vision from Hazel was written down in The Book of Edith and then Tami would come to “interpret” it, as the Speaker of Truth. After years Hazel barely remembered the time she touched Tami and saw her truth, but she still didn’t quite trust her. Especially as her dreams became more and more violent and bloody. Still she tried to believe what her parents and Miss Tami, the Speaker, told her.
- But death continued to follow her in her dreams. Death, The Golden Figure and then the Shadow. She didn’t know what the Shadow was at first, but Tami assured her that the Shadow was the enemy.
- At 15, she had a vision where the Shadow and the figure of Golden Fire became one and burned everything down around them before it all descended into the pit of what she thought must be Hell.
- She tried to tell her parents, but they wouldn’t listen. Tami told them that the vision was a sign that if left alone, Edith might lose the war and she would need them to train even harder.
- Hazel continued to try to warn her parents that they were wrong, that it was not a good thing for Edith to come. Then when she decided to run away, only she never made it very far. She may have had all the skills to survive in the desert, but she didn’t know that Tami could track her using a spell.
- She was brought back to the compound and her parents tried to talk through her, but she told them that they were all going to burn because Edith would destroy the word, not save it. She told them that she wouldn’t tell them about any more of her visions.
- A month later her parents were tired of waiting (and had been feeling some pressure from Hunters who had been investigating nearby towns about them and what they were up to) and tried to perform a ritual to speed up Edith’s arrival by providing her with a host: Hazel.
- Tami led the blood ritual performed by all of the adults, but, of course, as she could not gain the psychic connection she claimed she had with Hazel to perform it, what they did instead of summoning Edith from her Purgatory was letting free a very powerful and very dangerous demon.
- The demon proceeded to kill all of the adults present in the compound (except Tami who instead signed a blood contract with the demon to become his servant), but not the ten children. Instead the demon marked all of the children, branding them, and telling them that he would come calling for them at a later date.
- He tried to brand Hazel, but she was so terrified that attempting to touch her caused a huge fire to burst around here, burning the demon’s hand. He quickly backed away and told her that she had already been claimed by someone else. Then he disappeared.
- All of the children fled the compound, taking what survival gear they could and leaving the compound as the fires spread around it. They asked Hazel to go with them, but she was so terrified and afraid that she kept running.
- She makes it to a small town twenty miles away on foot eventually and from there begins her journey of traveling throughout the USA Southwest. Sometimes she is lead there by visions of something happening nearby and gets caught up in Supernatural Shenanigans, other times she’s being stalked by the underlings of demons within the Cabal, a powerful group of demons wanting to kill her. They believe she will be the key to Edith’s return.
- Edith is a Fallen Angel who came to Earth and wanted to preserve it, but despised demons as being damned souls created by Lucifer. She hates the demons and sees them as a blight upon the Earth and helped other Angels banish them to their hell dimension. She liked humans well enough, even came to care enough to get into a relationship with one. But bearing a children from that relationship was enough to damn her and she was cast out of heaven as a Fallen Angel. The man she was with also left her because she did not bear him a son and thus became the bitterness towards humans as well. She sought to protect her daughter by subjugating the humans in the region, but Angels came and stopped her, banishing her to a Purgatory like dimension and leaving her daughter to grow up alone.
- Hazel is a descendant of Edith’s daughter on both sides of her family.
